{UAH} Who truly benefits from terrorism? It is certainly never Muslims.

One aspect of terror attacks and subsequent media coverage that cannot be ignored is how any attack - including lone wolf attacks - is seen as fodder for Islamophobes AND members of the public at large to blame the entire Muslim community and ANY Muslim out there for the crime.

This is a *consistent* feature of every terrorism cycle, so much so that in a way people who hate Muslims seem to rejoice when an attack like the one in London happens, even as they pretend to condemn it.

While the primary victims of any attack is always those who are killed and injured in them and their families, we cannot continue to ignore the part of the story where it still is widely accepted as OK to put all Muslims and all of Islam on trial every time, as a featured staple of broadcast and social media coverage of said attacks.

Today following the London attack, Channel Four identified the attacker as Abu Izzadeen (real name, Trevor Brooks, London-born British citizen) a well known kook who has for years acted as a show pony for bizarro open confrontation and harassment of Muslim communities with outlandish extremist rhetoric.

He would praise the 7/7 London suicide bombers and declare that his ambition was to die the same way. He was arrested several times by authorities and even given a 4.5 year prison sentence of which he served 3.5 years.

He operated with a handful of other hate-mongering show ponies, the infamous quirky characters Anjem Choudery, Omar Bakri and Abu Hamza as part of the Al Ghurabaa group who only had a handful of followers but tremendous media power.

They targeted, heckled and harassed the Muslim community with relative impunity as well as enjoyed disproportional airtime from a fawning media enamored by their sensationalism.

The end result is real victims. But of course the Muslim community that has long suffered from, and complained about, this unruly gang and their being offered a relative red carpet by the media for years, was immediately blamed and demonized further as mass culprits by social media users, led by known islamophobes like Pamela Geller but also by regular confused or intellectually lazy folks. Just search "Abu Izzadeen" on Twitter and bask in the results.

The irony is mind boggling.

Now, the fact that it might not be Abu Izzadeen after all (his brother and his attorney insist he is in jail) is insignificant to this discussion. A) the damage is done. B) even if it would be another equally kookish or marginal Muslim, which it still well might be, the results will be the same.

Who truly benefits from terrorism? It is certainly never Muslims.
